How SmartTrash® Works

SmartTrash® turns an ordinary compactor into a connected, self-managing machine. Once installed and calibrated, it measures the compactor's energy use to know exactly when it's full, schedules the haul, confirms the pickup happened, and closes out the order — automatically, 24/7/365.

A non-intrusive monitor installs on virtually any compactor and draws power from the machine itself — no separate power supply, no network cabling.

Instead of pressure sensors that drift and fail, SmartTrash® measures the compactor’s energy draw to determine fullness — a learning-by-doing system that optimizes after every cycle and runs self-diagnostics to catch problems early.

SmartTrash® monitors stay in touch from virtually anywhere — even three floors underground in a concrete garage. They use private cellular data networks and require no connection to your onsite WiFi or LAN.

RFID Access Control

Add the SmartTrash® RFID Access Control System to track — and bill — individual users of a shared compactor. Every scan of an RFID card or key fob is logged with the user and a timestamp, and full activity reports export anytime. Hardware includes the SmartTrash Base Station, Access Control Node, and RFID cards/fobs.

Security

Secure by Design

Every SmartTrash® system is built security-first. Monitors transmit only machine-performance data — with little or no third-party value — over private cellular networks (NB-IoT / Cat-M1 on 4G & 5G LTE networks), so they never touch your building's WiFi or LAN. Data moves through a credentialed UDP message system and lands in a SQL database that's siloed behind a firewall and never exposed directly to the internet. The user application is reachable only over an authenticated HTTPS connection.
